The company is also considered as the third largest computer maker in the world. This multi-tech company was founded by Stan Shih, Carolyn Yeh; Stan’s wife and five others in the year 1976. It was in 1987 that the company was named as Acer. The initial days of this company began with eleven employees with $25,000 in capital. In its initial days Acer was only a distributor of electronic parts and also worked as a consultant in using microprocessor technologies. The company has its global headquarters located in Hsichih City, Taiwan.

Acer has its chief operations in the countries like Australia where the subsidiary of the company is Acer Computer Australia (ACA). In India the subsidiary is Acer India.
