Acer is a Taiwanese multinational electronics manufacturing company. The company is recognized as the largest manufacturer with franchised computer retail chain in Taiwan and Acerland. The company is also considered as the third largest computer maker in the world. The products manufactured by the Acer include desktop, mobile, PCs and PDAs, servers and storage, displays, peripherals, and e-business solutions for business, government, education, and home users.
This multi-tech company was founded by Stan Shih, Carolyn Yeh; Stan’s wife and five others in the year 1976. It was in 1987 that the company was named as Acer. The initial days of this company began with eleven employees with $25,000 in capital. In its initial days Acer was only a distributor of electronic parts and also worked as a consultant in using microprocessor technologies. The company has its global headquarters located in Hsichih City, Taiwan.

Acer also takes part in different promotion programs. In 2001 the company provided sponsorship to the Prost Grand Prix Formula One team, and the team's Ferrari engines were badged as Acers. The company at present sponsors the Ferrari Formula 1 team. Recently on March 19, 2007, Acer announced sponsoring for the Factory Fiat Yamaha Team for the 2007 MotoGP World Championship season. Acer has its chief operations in the countries like Australia where the subsidiary of the company is Acer Computer Australia (ACA). In India the subsidiary is Acer India.
